How does Clearcover handle claims?

A question that we hear a lot is, “How is the Clearcover claims experience?” And we totally understand why you’d ask. Car insurance should be rock-solid reliable, especially when the unexpected happens.

We hope you never have to file a claim. But, if you do, we have your back. Let’s look at how this works.

First, here’s the Clearcover claims process.

1. You can file your claim 24/7 in the Clearcover app.

Filing a claim in the app only takes a few minutes (and is pretty much stress-free). Just enter some basic information, snap a few pictures with your phone, and your claim will automatically be entered into our system. We’ll take the reins from there. Simple, right?

You can also give us a call to start the claims process, of course. But over 2/3rds of our claims are submitted via the app (compared to the industry average of only 1 out of 10 claims submitted via an app) because, frankly, it’s just so easy. And easy is a very good thing—especially on a day that can otherwise be pretty challenging.

2. You’ll get a call from us.

After you submit your claim via the app (or by phone), one of our claims representatives will give you a call— usually within one business day.

Together, you and one of our team members will go over the details of the incident, exactly what your insurance policy covers, and what will happen next. You’ll get a claim number immediately (write it down!), and you can expect us to give you a call whenever there’s an update to your claim.

3. You’ll choose whatever alternate transportation works for you.

Did you purchase Alternate Transportation insurance when you bought your policy? Smart. It’s a particularly great coverage at Clearcover. That’s because, unlike most car insurance companies, we don’t micromanage how you’d like to get around while you don’t have access to your car. We'll simply send you money and let you choose your transportation options.

You can spend your Alternate Transportation money on the bus, on Lyft rides, or on giving your significant other some gas money for driving you around. And, yes, you can also spend your money on a rental car. It’s completely up to you.

4. You’ll receive your check.

We pay our claims quickly. While every situation is a little bit different, our focus is always on completing the process as fast and as easily as possible. The vast majority of our claims are completed and paid in under a week. (And sometimes we finish the process much faster than that—we’ve closed claims in under a day.)

How do we pay out so fast? Here’s a general timetable.

  • After you file your claim and talk with a team member on the phone, we’ll assign an insurance adjuster to take a look at the incident.

  • The insurance adjuster will provide an analysis within 24-48 hours.

  • Once we receive the analysis, we pay the claim within one business day.

That’s it. We know you don’t want to wait long to get back to your life, so we do our best to ensure you don’t have to.
