The culture at Clearcover prioritizes the mental health of all employees with the goal that everyone feels supported and cared for. When the theme of World Health Day 2021, “Mental health care for all: let's make it a reality,” was announced, it resonated with everyone in the company, including Vikki Caruso, Clearcover’s Senior Vice President of People.

Vikki recently spoke with Authority Magazine about how Clearcover is making the goal of mental health for all a reality.

Vikki’s interview appeared as part of the magazine’s series on “5 Ways That Businesses Can Help Promote The Mental Wellness Of Their Employees.”  In her interview, Vikki delved into the five initiatives Clearcover has taken to support the mental health of all employees:

  1. Meditation and Yoga

When Clearcover recognized the need for employees to have an outlet to relax, we began offering virtual meditation and yoga sessions.  The classes were so popular that additional sessions were added on to the original three per week.

  2. Mental Health Workshops

Clearcover hosts monthly Mental Health Workshops  which are available to every employee and include topics such as “How to Build a Support Network.”  One-on-one counseling sessions are also available to ensure that every employee’s mental health needs are addressed.

  3. Creating work culture at home

Clearcover is proud of our work culture and didn’t want employees to completely miss out on the office environment as they worked from home.  While snacks and LaCroix sat untouched in our downtown Chicago office, Clearcover employees received snack boxes delivered to their homes and even received a stipend to set up their home offices.

  4. Flexibility

In addition to flexible schedules, extra holidays, and unlimited vacation, Clearcover offered employees began to offer a four-day workweek during the summer.  Beginning in the fall, Clearcover introduced “Focus Fridays.”  Employees are encouraged to keep their calendars free from meetings to give them an opportunity to focus on what they need to accomplish.  Employees may also schedule personal appointments on Fridays.  Clearcover has observed noted that offering this flexibility and encouraging people to take paid time off improves employee mental health and increases overall productivity.

  5. Fun

Clearcover has found numerous ways for employees to have fun virtually from hiring virtual comedians to playing Jeopardy for the holidays, hosting “live” awards, and celebrating “Friday Wins.”  Clearcover recognizes that having fun is essential to any company’s mental health plan.

Vikki emphasized the importance of talking about mental health in the workplace and offering employees the support and resources they need.  She takes her responsibility to create a safe place where employees feel they can ask for help very seriously.

And Vikki’s favorite life lesson quote? “Be a goldfish,” from fictional soccer coach Ted Lasso.  The quote refers to a goldfish’s ten-second memory, which allows it to move forward without focusing on the past.  To Vikki, this quote means, “Don’t let things bring you down. There’s always something positive. Let the past be in the past and move forward.”

If you’re looking to move forward with a company whose culture prioritizes employees’ mental health, we invite you to apply for one of the open positions at Clearcover.
