Clearcover understands and appreciates the value that each employee brings to our company’s mission of providing smarter car insurance. Our people are our priority - which means their mental health is, too. Mentally healthy employees are happier, more satisfied, and more productive… which is precisely why we’re offering Clearcover-ers the opportunity to transition to 4-day workweeks throughout July and August.

The Pandemic and Mental Health

Nearly 18 months ago, the pandemic began wreaking havoc on life as we knew it. Almost overnight, people everywhere were stripped of many things that bring them joy (family gatherings, travel plans, workouts at the gym, office culture, lunch with a co-worker) and began living an unfamiliar lifestyle involving lockdowns and social isolation. As is the case with many companies, Clearcover transitioned from a lively office culture to a remote workforce early in the pandemic.

Despite the drastic changes, our team remained productive and even grew, having onboarded 200 employees since the start of the pandemic. We have no delusions that this was easy. We surveyed our people throughout the pandemic and many acknowledged struggling with loneliness, others expressed fear of burning out spurred on by “living at work” - and some simply asked for mental health support. The journey through the pandemic has been a long, and winding road for our Clearcover employees we understand the toll it’s taken on their mental and emotional health. Now that the world is opening up and getting back to normal, we’re giving back to our employees with the gift of time.

Burnout is at its Peak Everywhere

While it’s always been a prevalent issue, employee burnout is at a peak nationwide since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the normal procedures of the office. In a survey conducted by Indeed this spring, 52% of respondents admitted feeling burned out by their jobs. Additionally, more than two-thirds (67%) believe that their feelings of burn-out have worsened since last year, before the pandemic.

Since the beginning, Clearcover has cared for the mental health of our employees, going the extra mile to ensure that each individual feels supported by the company and their fellow Clearcover-ers. At the same time, we acknowledge the effects of work-related burnout on individual stress levels and team-wide productivity, particularly on the heels of a pandemic.

At Clearcover, we’re proactively working to promote positive mental health and avoid burnout by offering the following support:

  • Monthly Mental Health Workshops with a licensed therapist who provides strategies and tips on topics such as overcoming burnout and building resilience, plus sessions focused on women's and men's health.

  • 1:1 Counseling Sessions for mindset coaching or mental health “check-ins”. We’ve also offered individual counseling and support for employees struggling with the racial and social injustices that are plaguing our nation.

  • A Mental Health Community within our internal communication platform, Slack, where employees actively share information and offer support to one another.

  • Unlimited vacation days; we encourage at least one day off per month.

  • Flexibility to work asynchronously.

  • Morning and afternoon yoga classes

Our new 4-day workweeks are a continuation of this effort to support our employees in their mental health journey. Throughout the country and across industries, companies have proven time and again their employees are happier and healthier with fewer days spent in the office/working. We believe that Clearcover-ers will reap the same benefits that a shorter workweek has given so many employees.

The Power of a Positive Employee Experience

With this increased flexibility in their schedules, we are encouraging our employees to devote time to their interests outside of their careers, too - whether that be spending their day off with their families, taking up a new hobby or activity, or freeing up their Saturdays by accomplishing their to-do list on Fridays.

With a greater sense of fulfillment and freedom outside of the office, our people will feel invigorated, refreshed, and motivated to perform inside the office.

Clearcover is continuing to expand our team. If our company culture (and a 4-day workweek!) sounds appealing to you, we encourage you to apply for our open positions and learn more about our culture.
