Clearcover's Channel for Praise

In Clearcover's people-first culture, maintaining the happiness of our team members is a top priority.  Along with offering a comprehensive package of benefits and providing ongoing mental health support to enhance everyone's well-being, we recognize the importance of consistent and continual praise in the workplace to promote happiness and bolster Clearcover-ers' dedication to their work.  And since all of us turn to Slack in order to stay connected, we opened the company-wide #Praise channel as a dedicated place to recognize one another's efforts.  

When team members consistently give and receive praise, the positive effects reverberate through the entire company. A Harvard Business Review article asserted that, "giving someone else a boost, whether giving compliments or expressing gratitude, has a mood-lifting effect and contributes to well-being. This means that everyone benefits — givers and receivers alike."  And a recent Gallup post pointed out that "recognition for good work releases dopamine in the brain, which creates feelings of pride and pleasure." Furthermore, a consistent flow of praise in the workplace, "creates employee engagement." In light of these inarguable benefits, Clearcover sought to create an outlet where all team members could easily and consistently give and receive praise.

Like many employees in remote-first companies, Clearcover-ers rely on Slack to effectively communicate with one another as we work from our home offices across the country.  Channel topics range from important, company-wide announcements to dedicated discussions for Employee Resource Groups, movies, food, and even our favorite items in our monthly snack boxes.  With over 450 members, #Praise has become one of our most widely utilized channels.

Multiple times each week, Clearcover-ers post in the channel to celebrate work anniversaries, offer congratulations on the completion of projects, commend their teammates' better-er solutions to problems, and more.  Each post highlights the Leadership Principle(s) that the recipient of the praise continues to embody.  The multiple comments that inevitably follow every post reinforce the appreciation expressed by the writer.

By publicly showing appreciation for one another through the #Praise channel, Clearcover-ers boost each others' happiness and even their own as we maintain a culture in which everyone strives to put forth their best efforts for their teams.
