Clearcover-ers Step Up: Fitness Challenge

Written by Team Clearcover | September 16th, 2022

At Clearcover, we're always looking for ways to connect with one another as we work in our home offices across 30 states.  Whether gathering together via Zoom for our monthly All Hands meetings, collaborating with colleagues outside of our assigned teams during the Clearly Hacked hackathon, or attending virtual panel discussions, Clearcover-ers across all departments are constantly interacting.  As we keep everyone connected, Clearcover continues to support the mental health of all employees by providing ways to have fun together beyond our computer screens.  While Chicago-area Clearcover-ers formed the Rocket Turtles Kickball Team, we issued our first "July Steps Challenge" to encourage Clearcover-ers across the country to have fun together while taking advantage of the fleeting summer days.

From Monday, July 6 through Sunday, July 31, Clearcover-ers who chose to join the challenge logged their daily steps and shared posts in a dedicated Slack channel.  Steppers posted updates and photos of the unique locations that inspired them to move from picturesque nature trails in Waxhaw, North Carolina and Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin, to golf courses in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and bike trails along the Detroit River.  Participants also racked up steps closer to home by going on their daily Dunkin runs, hitting gym treadmills, and chasing after toddlers!

Mid-way through the challenge, a few steppers had logged over 150,000 steps! When another participant pointed this out, the leaders revealed that they were all training for marathons in Chicago, Fox Valley, and Mesa.  We'll be cheering them on in their respective races in the upcoming months.

At the end of the month, Software Engineer Michael Palmer won the challenge, logging over 580,000 steps.  He earned his bragging rights until next summer!

Clearcover's people-first culture strives to create a workplace environment where everyone feels connected and included regardless of where they are located.  The July Step Challenge allowed Clearcover-ers across all departments and the country to come together outside of our daily work hours to interact, exercise, and enjoy the summer.  If you're looking for an excuse to up your daily step count and are ready to work for a company that values connection and fun, we invite you to apply for one of our open positions today.
